WHAT DOES A MEDICAL ASSISTANT DO?
Medical Assistants are a very important part of the healthcare industry and are doctors right hand, and play a crucial role in helping physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners maintain efficient, smooth-running offices. The administrative and clinical tasks they perform can vary, depending upon the size, location and specialization of the practice, but all of the roles are important and essential.
Medical Assisting is one of the nation’s fastest-growing careers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. ( 29% from 2016-2026 )
Medical Assistants perform a variety of clinical and administrative duties which include but is not limited to:
- Answering the telephone
- Scheduling appointments
- Making follow up calls
- Greeting patients
- Filling patients records
- Billing
- Preparing patients for examination and taking their vitals
- Taking patients personal information, medical history
- Helping doctors in the examining room
- Drawing blood and performing basic laboratory tests
